This movie is a tragedy. Richard Kelly is a strange one, but I admire him for at least trying to set himself apart from plain vanilla Hollywood stories. I would attempt to give away much of the plot, but it would be pointless. This is part moral dilemma and part sci-fi conspiracy story. It isn't anywhere near as big a mess as Southland Tales, and it isn't as polished or enjoyable as Donnie Darko, but it held my interest to the very end. Still, I have a hard time recommending this to anyone who doesn't appreciate bleak dramas and old episodes of The Twilight Zone.
