He was just released by the Phillies. Somewhere in ITI land, I think someone just wet themselves.
I got nothin'.

Wasn't he traded for Soriano a few years ago? Who would you rather have now? (considering their contracts, it's a toss-up)

Soriano still produces something, albeit being inconsistent and leaving you with Cubbie blue-balls from time to time.

In a perfect world, I'd imagine Lou would put Colvin in left to start the year, and rotate Nady in there when healthy. Then we'd have money to spend on arms.

So is Ruby saying that he considers paying Alf $18 million last year and for the next FIVE years to be good for the Cubs? Think of how many middle relievers Jim could buy for $90 million...Ruby would be in heaven!

If I could trade Soriano - and his contract - for Wilkerson today, I would do that trade a million times in a row while trying to conceal my boner.

Why the hell would you do that???? conceal the boner that is.
Fat Bastard is an immensely obese, hardly able to walk (weighing a metric ton) gardener and henchman hailing from Scotland. His extreme size endows Fat Bastard with super-human strength as exhibited by his prowess in the Sumo ring from Goldmember. This makes him a formidable enemy for Austin Powers. Fat Bastard is noted for his foul temper, his frequent flatulence, his vulgar and revolting bad manners and his unusual eating habits, which include taste for Human infants (which he calls "the other other white meat") or anything that looks like a baby, e.g. small people. Fat Bastard has been a regular at Cub games since the early 80's when he tried several times (unsuccessfully) to eat the visiting San Diego Chicken.

The only reason I can see to do that is if you assume Hendry and the Cubs would use that extra money to get high end talent to replace him. That's a big stretch.

Yea, let's trade him to get all that money off the books and sign...oh wait?
If Angelo had picked McClellin, I would have been expecting to hear by training camp that kid has stage 4 cancer, is actually 5'2" 142 lbs, is a chick who played in a 7 - 0 defensive scheme who only rotated in on downs which were 3 and 34 yds + so is not expecting to play a down in the NFL until the sex change is complete and she puts on another 100 lbs. + but this is Emery's first pick so he'll get a pass with a bit of questioning. - 1060Ivy

Lol, yeah Soriano is the better player......but still he could be so much better . It seems that once a player gets a big contract like we gave Soriano, he automatically turns into a bust. I don't know why that works that way, especially always for us.

They don't all do that; it just seems that way. D Lee and Aramis have continued to play well after signing big deals. We've definitely had problems in the free agent market, though. That's why I always look to Ted Lilly...great signing. Perhaps routinely signing guys in their 30's (ie, their declining years) to multi-year deals isn't an ideal strategy. But that Ted Lilly...I miss him.
