2010 Minor League Roundup
I'm kind of surprised they haven't come up with a expected vs received type of production scale for all the prognosticators out there.

So like, from 2006-2010 Team A was considered #1 for their Farm System by BA, with players #1 - 50 being in the mix. Players 1 - 50 actually panned out to have 1 All Star, 3 Above Average, 4 Average and the rest either didn't make it or sucked. They'd get XX points for their farm system over that time frame. And compare that way. It would be far more useful to me than to what BA guesses they'll be.
I got nothin'.

I think it would be interesting to look at, but I don't know how much it would help in predicting success going forward. By the time you're able to evaluate some of the prospects of these teams, there's probably a decent amount of turnover in the front office or the minor league development staff. Still, it would be fun to look at that stuff.

The thing you need to remember is that all Cardinals fans and all White Sox fans are very bad people. It's a fact that has been scientifically proven beyond a shadow of a doubt. Being a Cubs fan is the only path to rightousness and piousness. Cardinal and White Sox fans exist to be the dark, diabolical forces that oppose us. They are the yin to our yang, the Joker to our Batman, the demon to our angel, the insurgence to our freedom, the oil to our water, the club to our baby seal. Their happiness occurs only in direct conflict with everything that is pure and good in this world.

Sigh - I know. I'm saying that the ranking (23rd after being near the top 10) and the rationale for the huge drop (loss of a few of the better prospects) are lazy. Any idiot can say "gee willackers, the Cubs traded for Matt Garza, so they must suck now." In absolutely no universe is the Cubs' farm system, in total, the 8th worst in baseball. It's utterly ludicrous, particularly after the Gorzelanny trade (specifically Burgess), signing Szczur and signing the two new Cuban players. Those replace, or come close to replacing, the guys lost in the Garza deal.

Sorry I couldn't do it in a haiku.

I'd also add that the single WORST critique of the Cubs minor league system is questioning it's depth. If the system has anything going for it, it's the plethora of 3 and 4 star prospects remaining. You can ding them for not being top heavy, but to say that depth is a problem is ridiculous.
I wish that I believed in Fate. I wish I didn't sleep so late. I used to be carried in the arms of cheerleaders.

I respect his baseball knowledge but he seems like a bit of a smug dickhead a times, and doesn't seem to give us that much respect usually. Just like Keith Law. That's at least what I've noticed.
