Blake Parker? Or Jeff Stevens? All of them are the 'possible best man available'. What makes Cashner any better than those two who dominated AAA hitters in 2009? The same 2009 where Cashner had mediocre strike out numbers in A+ ball might I add.
I'm not trying to dog Cashner, but it's not a given that he's the best option.

You know what...right now I don't care if the first guy brought up is the best guy. Right now I'll settle for a different guy. You want to try someone you don't feel like we'd be rushing? Fine. You don't want to use up someone else's option? Fine. I don't care. I want Samardzija sent down, released, sold for organs, taken out on the fishing boat...I don't care. I just want that sack of shit gone. Try someone else...anyone else.

Indeed. It's time to let Samardzija go off and catch footballs for a living.

<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->Reports of former No. 1 draft choice Andrew Cashner joining the Cubs bullpen soon seem to be greatly exaggerated.
"It surprised me," manager Lou Piniella said the newspaper report. "I think I learn more from reading newspapers than I do talking to my front office. I don't know where that came from.
"We get minor league reports and he's had two really nice starts, but outside of that his name has not been discussed."<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Meh, this proves nothing in favor of my opinion. I prefer they give Cashner time to work on starting so I'm just happy to know the reports are over blown.

Yeah, not really sure how that proves anything in our discussion.

That's a classic.
There's nothing better than to realize that the good things about youth don't end with youth itself. It's a matter of realizing that life can be renewed every day you get out of bed without baggage. It's tough to get there, but it's better than the dark thoughts. -Lance

I haven't read EVERY post in this thread, but I was wondering, what do you guys think about maybe bringing Cashner up to be a reliever?
I wish that I believed in Fate. I wish I didn't sleep so late. I used to be carried in the arms of cheerleaders.

I think the consensus is that if he'd help the Cubs, no one is really opposed to it. But if it's a close call, some of us would rather see him continue to be stretched out as a starter.

According to some, we cant because he is vital to the starting rotation in 2012-13
