Concerts & Shows
#1
I'm seeing the Eagles for the second time on Friday, at the Hollywood Bowl, so it got me thinking. What is the best concert or show you've been to? The first time I saw the Eagles, they went for three hours, and played everything in their repertoire basically, and it was amazing. Hope it's even better at the Bowl.

You guys got some good ones?

Lots

Bob Mould in '89, Tom Waits in '82, Rollins Band the day after 9/11, Elvis Costello at Poplar Creek in '84, Allman Brothers Acoustic in New Orleans during Jazz Fest in about '96 or so...

I haven't been to a ton of shows like some of you guys.

Radiohead at Grant Park a few years ago was pretty amazing.

The first concert I went to was Rolling Stones up in Wisconsin for the Steel Wheels tour. Supposedly their farewell tour.

The best hip-hop show I've seen was Cypress Hill/House of Pain/Funkdoobiest. I think that was '94 or '95.

Andrew Bird at the Old Town School of Folk Music was pretty great.

My first concert was Aerosmith at the Forum with Cheap Trick when I was 12. The Eagles and Australian Pink Floyd are hands down the best I've seen. I went to two local KIIS-FM concerts, which was a mistake even though they were free tickets. I did see Mary J. Blige there though, and she was really, really good. She was the only one playing with live music.

I went to this new years eve, P-Funk All Stars show in the late '90s that was like a prom, people all dressed up, table with tablecloths, champagne and hors doeuvres...couples being photographed in front of cheezy backdrops. And there weren't two dozen of us white folks there.

The band never took a break for over 4 1/2 hours. It was right after Eddie Hazel died and Michael Hampton played Maggot Brain for about 20 minutes.

That show was, as they say, off the hook.

Fuck, I've probably seen 400 concerts/shows... I have no idea where to even start. I'll have to go through my tickets stubs sometime. I am seeing Them Crooked Vultures on Monday at the Fillmore in Denver, and looking forward to it.

The 4 best shows I've seen, in no particular order other than by date:

Iron Maiden / Anthrax at Rosemont Horizon 1991
Corrosion of Conformity / Clutch at HOB 2000
Mars Volta / System of a Down at Allstate Arena 2005
Muse at Aragon 2006 (Also was excellent seeing them with Silversun Pickups last month)

Put a glide in your stride and a dip in your hip, and come on up to the Mothership.

A few years later I saw the tour when Clinton brought back the Mothership stage set.

Phish at Jazz Fest 95'
The Moody Blues at Riverport 96' or 97'
Nine Inch Nails Rosemont 95'
