I'd rather they pay him to stay away.
Cubs are already paying him and budget has to be limited - Need to keep the powder dry for future free agent signings, ha - so if they can, guessing that the Cubs would want him back

I can't imagine they'd want to give meaningless ABs to a controversial scrub player in his mid-30s, right? Alcantara is already up. It will be interesting to see how they fill the 3(?) 40-man spots, but, boy, Sogard would a complete waste of a move based on the direction they have taken.

One small, only-relevant-to-me-so-I'm-not-even-sure-why-I'm-sharing-except-that-I'm-bummed-today consolation is that Pete Crow-Armstrong played at my son's little league. One of the coaches who was there at the time was stoked that "Petey" was the centerpiece of such a big deal and said he was a great kid. Another told me he saw him play once for Harvard-Westlake HS and said he was a beast. At least I can try to sell my son on getting excited for him? A few weeks back Jack Flaherty was at one our local LL tournaments, same LL and high school as Crow-Armstrong. My son was happy to get his autograph despite being a cardinal, so...
If it's not clear, I'm 10 minutes away from breaking all this news to him, it's going to be weird.

Oh, but the Cubs can resign just about all these guys as free agents in the off-season. Yup, that’s what’s going to happen
Honest question: do you want the Cubs to sign Rizzo to a long-term contract in the off-season?

Depends on the contract. Supposedly he turned down 5 yr and $70 MM offer at start of season. Rumor was he was looking for $100 MM deal. Given his back and slowing bat this season the 5/$70 deal looks about right but could imagine a front loaded 3 year deal to keep the face of the org at Wrigley.

So, okay, there's a lot of context and nuance to consider, plus, you know, 29 other teams. As much as it sucks to admit it, Rizzo's continued decline will likely mean that the fans of whatever team he signs with will come to give him the Heyward treatment long before the contact is up.
Today sucks ass for Cubs fans, and the the Ricketts are horrible people who need to be eaten by wolves. But the collapse of Hayward, Rizzo, and Happ (for starters) have made this trade deadline easier to understand.

Yeah, I'm letting my emotions calm. I think there were other ways for this to be done, but how many times have we all bitched about this offense? I think there is zero doubt a big change was needed. Let's see what the off season brings, lot of money coming off the books, we will really know for sure what this family plans to do.

Fuck Sogard.
Anyway, this makes me feel a little better about the return for KB.

In exchange for Bryant, the Cubs get two players with plenty of upside in outfielder Alexander Canario and right-hander Caleb Kilian. Canario was added to the 40-man roster this offseason ahead of the Rule 5 draft, but hes playing in just his first full season. He had offseason shoulder surgery but was on the active roster on Opening Day. After a slow start, he has a .758 OPS with nine home runs and 15 stolen bases in 65 games at Low A. The 21-year-old has easy power to all fields and a solid hit tool, and can cover a lot of ground in the outfield, as well.
Kilian, an eighth-round pick in 2019 out of Texas Tech, has been the Giants minor-league pitcher of the year to this point in the season. In 15 starts at the High-A and Double-A levels, he has a 2.13 ERA and 96 strikeouts in 84 2/3 innings. Kilian has above-average fastball command and can run the pitch up to 97 while maintaining mid-90s velocity deep into starts. He also has a power curveball and a developing cutter that he uses as an off-speed pitch. Hes very polished and could be in the big leagues by next season. He projects as a mid-rotation starter.

I think overall Jed did well. I think Slaw mentioned earlier, but the Cubs system has cracked Fangraphs future value rankings top ten.

RHP Manny Rodriguez – Probably the most recognizable name, as a power reliever who has been dominating and was already on the 40-man roster. Rodriguez was always going to get a look in the second half, so I’m excited to see him get some runway.

RHP Michael Rucker – Similarly, Rucker had long earned a shot with his performance at Triple-A, but the Cubs had just been so full up. He’s another guy who can run it up into the upper-90s and then spin a great slider. I want to say he also has a quality cutter? I guess we’ll find out!

OF Johneshwy Fargas – Is the speedy guy the Cubs recently claimed from the Mets, and there’s a non-zero chance he shows himself to be a capable big league depth option.

1B Frank Schwindel – Is the power bat the Cubs grabbed from the A’s, and while I don’t think he’s going to be auditioning for a first base job going forward, he has really hit at Triple-A and his age suggests it’s time to give him a look to see if he can stick on a big league bench (especially with the DH coming).

UTL Andrew Romine – Is a long-time veteran who can play all over, was hitting well at Iowa, and so he’s just kind of a pro’s pro who comes up with the younger guys to be there in this transitional period. He’s also the brother of erstwhile back-up catcher Austin Romine.
I've never seen so many get the call at one time. And that answers Ivy's Sogard question.

I did not, but thanks for the heads up. I suppose they had better have after this '98 Marlins-levl exodus, huh?

Have your son start watching the 2006-2010 Heroes and introduce him to Crow-Armstrong's parents.

Excited to see Rodriguez, he can get it up to triple digits and has just been blowing people away.

If Kimbrel is on the mound for the last out of the World Series this year I will never fucking forgive Hoyer. This is the trade that is pissing me off the most. What a stupid fucking trade. Literally every contending team wouldve wanted to add Kimbrel and we trade him to the fucking White Sox for fucking Madrigal? Jesus Christ.
