I think Bz explains it better than Phillps. It is not that baseball GM is harder than any other profession, but like a GM in any other profession, you can't walk off the street and do it. You have to have experience managing people, time and money. You have to have knowledge of your industry. The respect and trust of your employees, customers, bosses and vendors. You also need a network of contacts and relationships.
