I didn't know that in this era "long relief" even existed, except to kill innings during blowouts. It's become job for your worst pitchers.
So a starter gets lit up and Z comes in for last out in the third, with two runners on and trailing by five, to stop the bleeding and pitch four or five thankless innings.
I think Lou is TRYING to make Z's head explode.
