Yeah, I know the contract has a bad rep, but there was a <i>reason</i> that A-Rod's $252 M deal happened:
-all-around 5-tool star (a Gold Glove SS, a 40-steals baserunner)
-only 25 years old, just about to ENTER his prime
-for all his quirks, a deeply dedicated athlete
-already one of the best hitters in MLB
-playoff experience, played under a good manager (yep, Lou) had superstar teammates to learn from (Griffey at his peak, Edgar, the Big Unit), and had six years of MLB experience under his belt.
I doubt that that combination will be coming around again in our lifetimes.

There's nothing better than to realize that the good things about youth don't end with youth itself. It's a matter of realizing that life can be renewed every day you get out of bed without baggage. It's tough to get there, but it's better than the dark thoughts. -Lance
