If the player is on the 25 man roster for less than 85 days, then they cannot be a Super 2 no matter what. So that would be early July.
If the player is up before July, they will take a look at their Major League service time and compare it to other players that were brought up this year before July and will take the top 15% in terms of service time to be Super 2s. So, if all the first year players this year get optioned for significant amounts of time, at some point and Castro stays with the Cubs all the way up till two years from now, it's conceivable that he could be a Super 2 even if he is brought up after May 15.
