I think with the mighty Font playing a little ss... Blanco is as good as gone unless they put him on the DL. I honestly believe they view Castro their as their backup SS even though he is going to start at AAA.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Blanco got into yesterday's game late as a sub at shortstop - first action in over two weeks.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

I don't think he is going to make the team. I could be wrong but I just don't see it.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

I don't think so either - the only issue with him: out of options.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Oh I know. I just think he is the forgotten man in all of this. I think his time with the Cubs is over.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Which is lame. When you have about the worst defense in the league, would be nice to keep an outstanding defensive middle infielder around. He could be used in the 8th inning+ in about every game. Also, he's the best interview on the team.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

<b>He'd never be a late-inning sub for Theriot, though (that is to say, Lou wouldn't yank Theriot late)</b>. So he'd be taking up a bench spot so we could have a late-inning defensive sub at second base, and a very occasional spot start at short. And no bat. I won't pitch a fit either way, but I'd rather keep Tracy.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Probably, which is also lame(unless Theriot's getting on base at a .390 clip like in 08 and we can't afford to take his bat out). Blanco's a waste of a bat for sure, but I'm just worried enough about our defense where I could let that slide.

We possibly have the worst middle infield and LF/CF combos in baseball defensively. We have a blah catcher defensively, an inconsistent third baseman defensively who is currently not 100%... really our only good players on defense are Lee and Fukudome(and they're both very very good of course, and Lee saves the rest of the crappy infield at least a handful of errors each year). I'm very very worried about this. I just can't remember a defense that looked this bad on paper that went on to win a championship. I suppose if you had a juggernaut offense and pitching staff you could, but we probably don't have either.

I've always been a big Chad Tracy guy and would keep him over Millar, but I'm not sure over Blanco unless they're really confident he can be like his old self.
