True, but Ruby didn't say that. He flat out said that good teams are good up the middle. I showed that the WS winning 1995 Braves were, in fact, very mediocre up the middle. Maybe he should have qualified his statement by saying good teams need to be good up the middle in the absence of a great pitching staff.

That team could play defense up the middle, the Cubs have Theriot, Fontenot/Baker, a RFer in CF, and Soto (who is good defensively).

Byrd is an above average center fielder.
