If we did 3 division I guess we could have a balance schedule.

Each team plays intradivision teams twice (6)
Each team plays interdivision teams once (8)
---- Which make 14 games. A 6 team playoff would stretch in to week 17.

Are there other benefits to setting up divisions?

We could do either. If we did the first, we just eliminate one game.

I'm in the Super Bowl in one of my leagues. It has a week 17 super bowl. I would not have made the playoffs if we didn't have a 14 week schedule. And I STILL think a week 17 super bowl is a terrible idea. I made the playoffs in large part because of Aaron Rodgers. He probably isn't going to play much this weekend. I am desperately searching for average guys on shitty teams who will play this weekend. It's no way to determine a champion.
