I never once said anything of the sort, it has nothing to do with being purchased. It has to do with having a blend in the bullpen of lefties and righties, as well as veterans and young arms. Signing Grabow, for the price Hendry did, was 100% the correct thing to do. If he signed another veteran reliever for the same, it was also be the right thing to do. However, he went with a 100% in house, cheap bullpen, it would be wrong; it would also be wrong if he went out and bought an entire bullpen of veteran relievers. Scarey is wrong, you are also wrong, it's really quite simple.

It sounds like we agree on the principle (mix of veterans and youngsters); we just disagree on THIS particular veteran. Grabow is nothing special. He's not even been as good as Bobby Howry, LaTroy Hawkins, Mike Remlinger, Scott Eyre, Mark Guthrie, etc. had been in the years before they became Cubs. And they all sure turned out well.
