This is correct. I spent a week arguing with KB on Cubstalk about Hendry and his flavor of the month, Brian Sabean.

Sabean-led Giants team finishes at the time of Cubstalk:
1997-1st place
1998-2nd
1999-2nd
2000-1st
2001-2nd
2002-NL pennant
2003-1st
2004-2nd
So yeah, his record looked decent. Later, when he decided to change his tactics, I heartily agreed with this board's prevailing wisdom that he had started believing his own press, and became a lousy GM. I mentioned it numerous times.
I would not want him as the Cub's GM. The game has changed too much, and he has not kept up with the changes, IMO. I have often said the same about Jim; in another time, he might have been a very effective GM.
BTW, some of this supposedly "KB hates Hendry no matter what" ridiculousness is so overblown simply because of basic philosophical differences.
So, if my basic belief is that overpaying for middle relief is an unwise use of payroll dollars, and Jim has the opposite view, it isn't a one-time clash of notions.
It means that I'll bitch about Eyre. And Howry. And Remlinger. And Alf the first. And Grabow. And Capps. And on and on. It doesn't mean I hate Hendry. It means I hate overspending on replacement-level middle relief.

There's nothing better than to realize that the good things about youth don't end with youth itself. It's a matter of realizing that life can be renewed every day you get out of bed without baggage. It's tough to get there, but it's better than the dark thoughts. -Lance
