Now, I assume that Rick Ankiel is healthy and that 2009 stats are an anomaly so his 2007 and 2008 stats are a better indicator of what he can do which is a huge assumption.
Rick bats lefty which was the only thing the Cubs supposedly looked for in the last offseason so he aids in the Cubs effort to become more left handed.
Rick is an inexpensive, 1 year option so it's not like we would need to commit to him for multiple seasons or big dollars.
He has some power 15 - 20 HRs, slugging above 500. Sure it may be HGH enhanced but does anyone really care?
He has a cannon of an arm in the outfield.
The Cubs had some big luck the last time they signed an inexpensive, PED rumored, ex-Cardinal CF in 2008 so why not see if lightening can strike twice?
Rick was never my No. 1 choice but, if healthy, he is the better of the remaining free agent options.
