He plays very good defense, and there may not be a better option available to us in CF if we don't get Granderson. Would you rather we get a Jim Hendry special and four years of Marlon Byrd?
Just sayin'.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->
He is 37 years old, and is probably due for a massive decline. He hasn't hit over 250 since 2006. He's gotten on base at around a .330 clip over the past 3 seasons. He averages over 150 strikeouts per season. He is a prime candidate for an overly generous Hendry deal, since other teams will probably only offer him 1 season guaranteed.
I dunno, just doesn't sound very appealing to me. I'm not saying I would freak out over a one year deal, but considering that he'd most likely be our biggest acquisition after a crappy year, I'd be fairly disappointed in the offseason overall.

I just want to know who you'd prefer, of the realistic options. So far, here are the rumored non-Granderson names actually attached to the Cubs:
Cameron
Marlon Byrd
Rick Ankiel
Coco Crisp

I will admit, that's not an easy choice. Probably Byrd, even though he would most likely require a 3 year commitment vs (wild guess given Hendry's track record) 2 years of Cameron. I'm not a huge fan of Byrd either. Ankiel is a poor man's Cameron from the left side, and that isn't saying much. Crisp would probably come cheapest, but I don't want him (inevitably) leading off. I also wouldn't rule out a trade for another CF, not sure who though, but maybe someone younger who we could control for a while. I guess I will be pissed off regardless of who we sign for CF.
