Considering how consistent Abreu has been, and even though he's become a shitty fielder, I'd gladly pay $24 mil over 3 seasons for Abreu vs $30 mil for a self-destructive loon.

That's different - you're including the $5 mill year, which also happens to be the youngest year.
I'm just talking about this deal: 2 years and $19 million for a 36 year old, whose OPS has declined in 5 straight seasons (except one tiny increase two years ago), and whose defense has fallen off a cliff. To me, that's a crappy deal.
