Sure there's a reason. The same reasoning that you just gave with Trammell. If the Cubs think Sandberg is the manager of the future - which, regardless of his HOF player status, he's a rising star in the managerial ranks - they may want him as a bench coach with the big club (or some other coaching capacity, like hitting instructor as the article suggests). Is there a limit on bench coaches?
