The only guys that he's really blocking is John Contreras and Jericho Jones and they're both fringe prospects. I agree that there's a point that you have to drop your dead weight, but I personally believe you have to give anyone under the age of 24 a chance to develop before outright dropping him. If he would have produced like he did last year, I would be all for giving him the heave ho next year. Now that he has produced pretty well at A ball this year, I think that's enough of a reason to keep him around until he starts struggling.
I think the Cubs are of the same train of thought. Look at guys like Theriot, Fox, and Wells. Sometimes guys just take a certain amount of time to develop. IMO, age is kinda arbitrary (kinda). Look at Brian Dopirak for crying out loud (we'll see if he can play with the big boys soon I'm sure).
My point is pretty similar to Coldneck's though. He's producing no matter what age he is, he's cheap, and he's not in anyone's way. No reason to let him go at this point.
