If you're looking for horror, this is not it. It's definitely a chick book. The basic story is how a human girl and a vampire fall in love. It's a bit wishy washy and meant for high school girls. It was written well enough that I managed to get through it, but the first book in the series has done nothing but really setup characters and relationships.
