It's looking like he will also be in the bullpen for a while as a LOOGY. Even if Chris Archer doesn't make the major league team, the Cubs have traded away 1 year of service for quite a few more.

I don't see any of these guys making any impact this year. Why is that important? Because the window for success with our core of talent is closing swiftly. In your argument you're assuming 1 year of service from DeRosa THIS SEASON = (x) year(s) of service from Stevens, Gaub, and Archer in some future date. And that's also assuming any of them will be effective major league pitchers.

This team is built to win now. A season of DeRosa this year is far more valuable than an unknown quantity/quality of bullpen arms somewhere down the road.

Now, if we decided to rebuild this season, then I'm all in favor of the risk. But we're not.

I wonder if any utility IF/OF has ever garnered this much discussion? If you think we'd be any better off this year with DeRosa playing every day at 2B, fine. I don't see it that way. I liked DeRo. I thought he played hard and provided a spark when necessary. But I don't think he's the reason we're 4 games back of the cards right now, unless he has some chiropractor skillz i don't know about. Here are our starting pitchers. Gorzallasdfsdfnlsy [Pittsburgh cast off] Wells [Blue Jays cast off] Smarfsasfdasja [Better WR than Pitcher]. How are we supposed to win with that? DeRosa wasn't/isn't going to affect that.

Remember that long stretch of games when we were missing our best hitter and were playing very mediocre baseball? With Ramirez out, we had to move Fontenot to 3B and Miles to 2B. I think having DeRosa instead of Fontenot at 2B when Ramirez was healthy and DeRosa at 3B instead of Fontenot at 3B and Miles at 2B could have made anywhere from a 1-3 game difference during that span.

Obviously DeRosa wouldn't have helped our pitching. I'm not sure why that's being brought up. But in a season with a shitload of injuries to our position players, he would've helped. A lot.

I do find all of the posts bitching about the ongoing DeRosa discussion from people whose posts help to extend the DeRosa discussion kind of funny. If you'd like the discussion to die, don't post. Then I won't respond. Then this thread will fall to the bottom of the pile.
