Easily imaginable scenario: The Cubs finish 1 or 2 games behind the Cardinals, and miss the playoffs completely. DeRosa continues doing what he's doing for St. Louis, and we continue to miss him.

It will most certainly be remembered. Is the Alex Gonzalez error remembered? Is the Neifi contact remembered? Cringe-worthy things tend to linger, in a bad way.

Yeah...all it will take is for the Cards to win the division and us to miss the Wild Card and the DeRosa trade will be remembered for quite some time (not to say that it would be entirely due to DeRosa, but that's how people will remember it).

In that scenario I'm sure I'll remember it as one piece of an ill-fated season but it won't rank anywhere near in significance with the injuries, the offense and the bullpen.
