It's the Gary Gaetti syndrome. When someone plays way above his head, the Cubs expect it to continue the following year. Fontenot was good in his roll last year and the Cubs thought he would perform at a similar level given full time AB's, so DeRosa was expendable. The were wrong about Fontenot, which makes the DeRosa trade stupid. As was said above, Miles was brought in to be a backup- which makes his contract even dumber.
