Giving Fontenot the job at 2B while trading DeRosa so we could get more left-handed will go down as one of the dumbest things Jim Hendry has ever done in his life.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
That's only part of what he did. He did it to sign Bradley as well.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I actually thought Bradley was a good risk. But it had nothing to do with Fontenot and DeRosa.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
It did, but let's not get into this discussion for the 50th time on this board.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
OK. Let's not.
But it didn't.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Dude, you're wrong.
"According to Abreu’s people, the Cubs already had a verbal agreement with Bradley by the start of the winter meetings, and were waiting to clear salary (DeRosa, Marquis, etc.) to fit Bradley into their 2009 budget."
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
"I remember when we signed DeRosa [on Nov. 14, 2006] and there was more second-guessing about that than anything," Hendry said. "Mark's a terrific guy and he was a good player for us. <b>But the thinking in the winter was that we already had five right-handed hitters penciled in that weren't going anywhere. And we were concerned with how [Kosuke] Fukudome was going to come back [as a left-handed power hitter]. ... If he hadn't come back well and we kept Mark, we were probably looking at seven out of eight right-handed hitters every day in the lineup. Then we would have that issue again.</b>"
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
How does this in any way whatsoever contradict what I said. They wanted to get left handed. They wanted Bradley. The only way to get Bradley was to free up money. If money was not an option they would have kept Derosa. Or are abreu's people lying?

I wish that I believed in Fate. I wish I didn't sleep so late. I used to be carried in the arms of cheerleaders.
