Uh...nobody ever knows, until the final out is made during the LCS. And that determination is sometimes made on the final play. Last year's Series could have just as easily happened in Boston and L.A. instead of Tampa and Philly.
In fact, Boston took their ALCS to game 7.
What am I missing?
My guess is that as it stand, MLB has to book rooms in 4 different cities for the World Series. After the first round, they only need rooms in 2 cities. Under the "best record" format, they would have to book in 7 cities. After the first round, they would have to hold them in 3. Also bear in mind they would have to have rooms in EVERY city that has a playoff contender, until those contenders are eliminated. This, apparently, can't be done. Now, I'm assuming Selig has looked into this, and doesn't randomly lie to people when he says:
QUOTE "You simply can't do best record getting home-field (in the World Series). There's no way you could get the hotel rooms you need that late,"
But I could be wrong. Maybe he just likes pissing people off.

I wish that I believed in Fate. I wish I didn't sleep so late. I used to be carried in the arms of cheerleaders.
