Sorry to hear that, Tommy. When kids reach that adolescent stage, most of them want to spend more time with their friends and less with their parents. It's no reflection on you--it's just the way it is.
Funny you should mention the situation with going to the softball world series, because I had the exact same thing with basketball. My son's team qualified for the nationals--but that meant a week at Myrtle Beach at a cost of at least $1000 per family. No way could we have raised enough money to make a serious dent in the per family cost. On top of that, they are good--but not that good. They would have no chance to compete for the national title. They've played good teams, so I have a pretty good sense of what would happen in that venue. And if they had gone, my son might have played for a minute in each game--he'd be the last guy off the bench. Fortunately, they decided not to go.

I'm 100% fine with this. I'm just glad there's an actual plan in place that isn't, "Let's load up on retreads and hope we get lucky." I'm a little tired of that plan.
