Manager Lou Piniella has said Wells either will remain in the rotation or move to the bullpen.

"It's comforting, but at the same time, I don't want to take any edge off," Wells said. "I'm not going to look at it as if I pitch badly Friday or don't have a good start that I'm still going to be here. I'm pitching every day like it's my last day and I'm fighting for a job.

"That's the only way I know how to pitch. I've spent too many years in the minor leagues to get comfortable anywhere. It's nice Lou has confidence in me and would come out and say something like that, but that's not the way I'm approaching it because I know he can flip the switch any time. I've seen it."<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Love it. This team's got more fire than I can remember a Cubs team having. It's a hungry team, and it's become much more so with the additions of Freel, Scales, Wells, and of course Milton in the offseason.

He should go to the pen and Patton should head back to Colorado (more like Modesto).
