BT,
I'm going to let you in on a little secret that's gonna blow your mind.
Baseball players get injured a lot.
Shh. Keep it low; not many people know about it.
Like that Iron Horse 3rd baseman you were crowing about,
the spawn of Lou Gehrig and Cal Ripken, Aramis Ramirez?
Missed 13 games last year. Thirty the year before that. 30.
Two years before that? Thirty-Nine games missed. 39.
Good man to base your point around.
Alf has missed more games in the past 2 years than in all his other years combined. He's a 33 year-old man. Derrek Lee? A 33 year-old man. Milton Bradley misses more games than any other star player in all MLB. Font has never played a full season, and could certainly use some days off. Indeed, Lou even specifically said that one of the reasons he thinks the Cubs stunk the past 2 post-seasons was because the players were tired, and that he was going to go out of his way to give his regulars more rest.
With all of the above blasting you in the face, you're gonna tell me that DeRosa would have a hard time finding playing time?
Utter bullshit.
It seems real obvious to me that having a good bench, and/or excellent utility guys to sub for injured players is a key component of building a winning team.

There's nothing better than to realize that the good things about youth don't end with youth itself. It's a matter of realizing that life can be renewed every day you get out of bed without baggage. It's tough to get there, but it's better than the dark thoughts. -Lance
