It isn't a bad thing -- but it does accentuate the ridiculousness of the DeRosa trade.

No, no, no, no, no. Notice how with Freel, Fontenot is still the 2B, would not have been with DeRosa.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I don't really feel like illustrating how DeRosa and Fontenot could both get plenty of ABs on this team again...
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
And I don't feel like illustrating that DeRo would have to accept a bench spot and HOPE for injuries to Bradley/ARAM/Lee to play again...
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
You don't have to HOPE for injuries to Bradley -- you have to plan for the inevitable.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Just because Hendry has to plan for it doesn't mean DeRosa is going to accept it, especially when he's looking at the last chance he's got to earn a good contract. Which is why Hendry dealt DeRosa while he had a nice value, picked up some good minor league pitchers, and signed guys like Miles and Gathright, who aren't everyday starters, but are plenty capable of filling in for a period of time.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
If Hendry and/or Lou thought DeRosa was going to be a problem, then go ahead and tell DeRosa he's the starting 2B and tell Fontenot he's the utility guy. When Bradley, Ramirez, Alf, etc. go down with injuries, DeRosa moves into those slots and Fontenot is playing 2B. Problem solved.
