As a 25 year-old, he had a 117 OPS+, and could play multiple positions. IOW, he did what DeRosa did last year for us, only he was 25 instead of 33 (although DeRo was, in my opinion, much MORE valuable because the positions he could play were more valuable positions).
He was 2nd in the ROTY voting.
I think a player like that is a budding star, especially since he followed it up with two almost identical seasons.
And for at least one year, he was the best player on his team.
It was a lousy team, but he was probably on the cover of the media guide, or something.
Maybe not a "STAR," but close.
Not by anyone with at least 1 function neuron.

There's nothing better than to realize that the good things about youth don't end with youth itself. It's a matter of realizing that life can be renewed every day you get out of bed without baggage. It's tough to get there, but it's better than the dark thoughts. -Lance
