I'm glad he's going to get plenty of playing time.

However, one has nothing to do with the other. Let's do some math.
These players are likely to miss this many games (guesstimates, of course):
Bradley -- 60 - 70
Alf -- 20 - 30
Ramirez -- 20 - 30
Lee could use days off -- 20
Give Fontenot a rest against tough lefties -- 15
So, on the low end, that's about 135 games. On the high end, it's a full season worth of games. DeRosa can play all of those positions.
This is why I'm lamenting DeRosa's loss. It has nothing whatsoever to do with Fontenot.
It absolutely does. DeRosa was the starting 2b last year and played great baseball, they weren't going to take him out of the role if he were still on the team. I think Fontenot's got 100+ more at bats by this move.

You can't see that even with Fontenot starting at 2B, DeRosa could still play 140+ games?

He wouldn't be the starting 2b if DeRosa's on the team. He'd still get some more at bats likely due to their wanting of more left-handed hitting and Bradley's issues, but DeRosa would still be the "starter". And Hoffpauir's a nice weapon off the bench that is a better 1B than DeRosa as well, so it's not worth counting the 10-20 games Lee will miss to me. Really it's Miles instead of DeRosa, and Fukudome instead of DeRosa. The Miles-DeRosa swap won't be a problem at all, and the Fukudome swap is a downgrade offensively, but certainly not on defense.
I think what Fontenot and Bradley do will make us not miss DeRosa all that much. Let's also remember we have 5 or 6 hitters in the lineup everyday that are better than DeRosa, so offensively this loss isn't as big of a deal to us as it would be to almost every other team in baseball. Defensively, the only issues is third base and I've liked what I've seen from Fontenot there.

It's going to be a bigger issue than you're making it out to be when Bradley misses 60+ games. Fukudome is a train wreck at the plate and I don't see him coming out of it anytime soon. So, will Fukudome get the majority of Bradley's ABs? Will Miles? Either way, it's a big downgrade from what DeRosa would have provided. When you sign Bradley, you know what you're getting -- 100 games, if you're lucky.
