It worries me to see stuff like that. It seems like everyone is just <b>assuming</b> that we're gonna win the division by 10 games, and thus we can dick around, and settle old scores, and have "fun" lineups, and let our 4th best starter be our Opening Day guy...to me, that's a dangerous path to go down.
This is the Chicago fucking Cubs we're talking about.
Spock would pick Harden for Opening Day. His combined ERA+ last year (in both the AL and NL) was 203, best in MLB for any starter.
Literally, number 1. Better than Sabathia, better than Santana or Linceum. And that's in about 150 innings, so it's not a small sample.
He's lights out when healthy. Let's get this season off to a good start by giving our team it's highest % chance of winning. Radical concept, I know.

Lilly was arguably our best starter after April last year. He gave us a chance to win every single game. He's going to win 15+ again this year, he's not a #4 starter. He just happens to be on our team because we're loaded, but he's an ace on some teams.

Yeah, if he were on the Royals or Pirates or some other non-playoff contender, he'd be their ace. But he isn't. He's on the Cubs.
And by saying he sucked in April just gives me more reason to not want him to get an extra April start, on Opening day.
I love Ted Lilly. I was one of the many who considered him better than Zito when they were both FA's. Now there's no doubt. But my adoration for any one player is dwarfed by my desire to see the Cubs win, and the Cubs are a better team with the most dominating pitcher in MLB on the mound. That man is Richard Harden.
Pretty simple, I think.
