Well, technically, the deal we'd be regretting is the signing of Joey Gathright that forced this deal.

I'm gonna guess that Hendry knew that Pie was gonna be gone prior to signing Gathright. I don't think his signing forced the Cubs to do anything they weren't already gonna do.

Yes, but the signing DID force it. They went from planning to trade Pie to HAVE to trade Pie. Quite different.

He wasn't going to play over Fuk and Reed. All they were going to use him for was speed. Instead they were able to sign a guy that does the same thing and maybe better, and acquire 2 pitchers for Pie.

I agree with you. I think it was a good trade. I was disagreeing, on a technicality, with ruby.
