The Mets dropped out after their owner, not front office office, made the deal and commented on it publicly. When pressed about how much it would cost them, Cohen's response was he didn't care at all, it's just money. In other words, the front office had all the reasons in the world to get a deal done-- it was on the owner not them, money is no object, risk of a grievance suit if they walked away because of the public comments, and most importantly, the immediate gain of adding a top player to your team. And they still didn't get it done! Major red flags there, it's obviously a legit concern. I mean he went from 12yrs, 315M to 6yrs, 200M. Who takes 100M guaranteed less if there's not an actual issue?
