Heres the thing, baseball is regional. The best broadcast teams reflect that regionalism. Marquee is trying to present a national broadcast. It is the most shortsighted mentality to not understand this. Len talked about Ernie Harwell, well theres your answer. He knows that the best baseball announcers are tied to the local team. If he stays with Marquee he will be just another broadcaster in a sea of dry white toast. He wont be able to distinguish himself in the corporate blandness of marquee.
And fuck the ricketts because marquee is theirs. This is on them. They are beholden only to their corporate benefactors and their class.
Marquee should have been a Chicago thing, but it is run by suits in New York who have no ties to the area, the Cubs or anything resembling regional baseball itself. If the ricketts had any sense at all, especially with WGN getting out of sports broadcasting, they should have taken that production infrastructure and knowledge and make marquee the new WGN.

Some men are born mediocre, some men achieve mediocrity, and some men have mediocrity thrust upon them.
