Is ignorance bliss or is total lack of awareness both the ultimate and worst state?

There are many, many things in this world for which an awareness is not to my betterment. So no, not a total lack of awareness, but a preferred, selective lack of awareness. The trouble is, its difficult to be aware of which things to remain unaware of, without becoming aware of them.
