The Red Sox are an interesting case study in pursuing the dual track toward sustained success. It's been very boom/bust for them since 2011. I didn't fully understand how all of their FA signings last offseason would fit together, and felt like they overvalued a few of their surplus OF's and a top prospect or two that could have been dealt to acquire pitching. Hopefully the Cubs don't find themselves making similar blunders in a few years, at least not before winning a WS or 2 first..
