I guess they technically don't in the standings, but the idea of a tie is still honored by getting a point for an SOL.
The fact that baseball games can theoretically go on forever until there is a winner is one of the main things I love about the sport. Ties are dumb. The only reason Emily would want to make any changes would be purely economical.
Emily?
I think the biggest reason to make a change is that it puts teams that play in those games in a competitive disadvantage for days particularly with respect to bullpens.
The second biggest reason is that most games are played at night and super long games go until ridiculous hours.</blockquote>
My answer to both is that's the nature of the beast.
The first is, again, a wonderful element of baseball. It's part of what makes a 162-game season have ebbs and flows. The occasional long-inning affair throws a team off for a little while. I like that. And I have no desire to see any more bullpen coddling, which is an aspect of today's game that I don't like. I prefer fewer relievers throwing more innings. Maybe a couple more games like this each season will make managers re-think the way they use bullpens.
As far as the long hours go, so be it. It's not the worst thing that I fall asleep before the game ends. But to tell the truth, since I was a kid, I've been fascinated by the prospect that in theory a game could go on all night. I would friggin' love to be see a game that started at 7 pm end at the crack of dawn.
Now, the Emily thing, which I corrected in 10 seconds (and really makes me fearful of your response time, Kid Flash), I attribute to the iPhone being to smart for it's own good. It changed "MLB" to "Emily" because it thinks it knows every goddamned thing.
One dick can poke an eye out. A hundred dicks can move mountains.
