(CNN) -- Detroit Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera was arrested late Wednesday on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and two counts of resisting an officer without violence, a Florida sheriff's office said Thursday.
Cabrera, 27, was booked into the St. Lucie County, Florida, jail at 12:20 a.m. Thursday, less than an hour after the arrest, authorities said. He posted bail of $1,350 and was released at 7:45 a.m. Thursday.
An arrest affidavit said Cabrera refused to submit to a breath test, cursed at officers and asked them, "Do you know who I am?" The baseball player also picked up a bottle of Scotch and began drinking from it while officers were present, according to the affidavit.
Attempts to determine whether Cabrera has an attorney were unsuccessful Thursday.
The incident began after authorities found a vehicle smoking from the engine compartment on the side of the road, the affidavit said. The deputy "detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage" coming from the driver, identified by his driver's license as Cabrera, according to the report. "His eyes were bloodshot and watery and his speech was ... heavily slurred."
The deputy said that he asked Cabrera who was with him, and he replied, "I'm going to (expletive) kill him." However, the deputy saw no one else in the vehicle or in the area, according to the affidavit.
The officer said he then saw Cabrera pick up the bottle and begin drinking it, the report said. He handed the officer his passport when asked for his identification, then got out of the car and walked into the road, putting his hands up. The deputy said he continually asked Cabrera to get out of the road, and he did, but then wandered back, according to the affidavit.
Another deputy, who wrote the arrest report, explained that when he arrived, Cabrera was handcuffed and "being held onto" by a third deputy. The deputy tried to put him into a police car, but Cabrera said, "Do you know who I am? You don't know anything about my problems" and refused to comply, according to the affidavit.
The second deputy said he asked Cabrera to get into the car, "and he stated, '(Expletive) you. Do you know who I am?'" Cabrera then pushed off the vehicle into the deputy, who forced him into the car by delivering "3-4 knee spikes into his left thigh muscle," the report said.
While transporting Cabrera to the jail, there was a strong odor of alcohol in the car, the deputy wrote in the affidavit.
In addition to facing the misdemeanor charges, Cabrera was cited for having an open container of alcohol in the car, the report said.
In 2009, Cabrera was arrested in Birmingham, Michigan, after an argument with his wife, CNN affiliate WDIV reported. She told authorities he had come home drunk. He reportedly said last year he had stopped drinking.
