I'll agree with that. But, ultimately, if it does little to hamper future moves, what difference does it really make? Until fans stop paying for these contracts (I mean, let's face it, $20 million for a baseball player is fucked up), it matters little. How badly did the Dreifort contract--considered one of the worst of all time--really hurt the Dodgers, in the long and short runs?

I don't know what the Angels' budget is this year or will be over the next few years, but it's not inconceivable that having an extra $20 million on the books will restrict future moves. It would for the Cubs.

I've since taken a closer look at Napoli's stats. I change my opinion; the Angels got reamed.
