Yeah don't underestimate the crushing weight of history to certain players. 2003 we were there, had the pitching and had Sosa, Alou, and Rammi up the middle of the lineup. The Marlins had no business winning game 6, yet they did because of gross mistakes that came from somewhere...
I said no. I see no reason why to this point they have not with their resources and just don't see why that would change. Lucky for the cubs is they are the kings of the NL Central as far as $$ is concerned. That doesn't always do it (obviously we have seen) but that is working in the team's favor. I believe as jstraw said the scouting has gotten better and the farm system has made tremendous strides. But there is a reason it has been 102 years since they have won it all and 65 since a World Series. It is nearly impossible to explain. In 2004 I would argue the cubs were the most talented team at least in the NL. In 2008 the road was paved through Wrigley to get to WS. I just don't get it. I will root my heart out and follow this team until I am dead, which I have no idea when that will be. But unfortunately I just don't see it happening.
