That's assuming we get nothing in return and the salary relief won't matter. Otherwise, all we have is an expensive bench player.

Define "sold on." Do you mean as a certain future starter for years and years? If so, then I agree.
If "sold on" just means that he's a MLB caliber player - starter or otherwise - then I'm definitely sold.
