Wilken is at it again.
Simpson is a D2 LHP that wasn't on many top 200 lists. Its another one where you have to trust our scouting director. Edit: One of the guys on MLB Network said that he was LH but he appears to be RH That's how far he was off the board.

Isn't Hayden Homer's brother?
Fastball in the mid-90's along with a slider and a curve. http://nstbaseball.blogspot.com/2010/02/ba...ing-report.html http://magnoliareporter.com/sports/article...1cc4c03286.html

Gammons: I trust Tim Wilken.

Personally, I hope we either grab a kid out of high school that seems open to coaching, like Ryan Bolden (power, speed, and athleticism), Drew Vettleson, or A.J. Cole with huge potential upside... OR... a college player 1-2 years away like Dan Klein, Kevin Munson, or Anthony Ranaudo that could compete for a bullpen slot in 2012 (or earlier). It would be great to land a HS bat with potential like Josh Sale in the 2nd round, too, though he may be gone by the time we're on the baord.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I've seen the Cubs projected to take Sale in the first round in mock drafts. <!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd--> Rays take Sale straight after the Cubs first pick.

Simpson was rated #191 overall by Baseball America. Very Puzzling pick.
Hope we won't regret not taking Sale.

Gammons didn't even have him on his notes, no one could even analyze except to say they trust Wilken, MLB.com didn't even have a scouting report ready. Wow. Only thing I wonder on picks like this is if we could have waited a round or two.

His numbers against Division II talent were pretty impressive, for whatever that's worth.
06-07-2010, 08:46 PM
When I saw Sale, I could only think of Ryan Harvey.
