Count me in. I have nothing against the man, but he just can't get the Cubs up for the big games.

They are all professionals, if they can't get hyped up for a game against the Cardinals then there is nothing Lou can say or do that is going to help them.

If Dusty didn't get fired in 2005, I don't see how Lou is going to get fired.

You'd think after a year I'd be able to say something original.

Butch, I can see why you keep going back to that point of reference. Dusty's "performance" as a manager in 2005 was truly an all-timer, in terms of stupidity, stubbornness, and total ignorance of the large changes the game had undertaken in the previous few years. Coming right on the heels of his performance in 2004 (mind-blowingly bad; had the team merely played to its pythagorean record, it would have made the playoffs), you almost couldn't dream up a more perfect scenario for a well-deserved firing. Yet Jim didn't pull the trigger. And even after the Cubs (and their fanbase...especially their fanbase) suffered through yet another excruciating season in 2006, he STILL didn't fire Dusty. He just let his contract expire. Does anyone think this kind of GM would even remotely consider firing Lou?
There's nothing better than to realize that the good things about youth don't end with youth itself. It's a matter of realizing that life can be renewed every day you get out of bed without baggage. It's tough to get there, but it's better than the dark thoughts. -Lance

I'm not going to defend the way Lou has managed the team for the last year, but he's far from their biggest problem. If you had switched out the best manager imaginable for Lou at the beginning of the year, how many wins do you think this team would have at this juncture?

Ideally who would you want to replace Lou? And who would actually be available/a viable option if Lou was fired say tomorrow?

The obvious choice is to elevate Tram and begin the search NOT for a new manager but a new GM. THEN go shopping for the 2011 manager.
