Just money.

Of course they're going to let him serve it while on the DL. They don't require teams to hold a spot open on the roster when somebody is suspended for 50 games, so there's no difference between pulling him off the DL early and letting him serve while on the DL.
This is not some silly theory that's unsupported and deserves being mocked by photos of Xena. [Image: ITgoyeg.png]

I thought the Reds would be able to let him serve it after the 60 day DL stint is up, but this is even better for them.

There's no hope for him.

The Cubs signed a Venezuelan catcher, Wilson Contreras, to a $800,000 bonus last year. He almost immediately was suspended for 50 games for PEDs. The guy is turning 18 years old this year and was expected to play at an MLB academy in South America this year with or without a suspension. Not in any minor league games. I guess this kind of sheds light on his situation now. It's slightly different, but my guess is this guy is currently surving his suspension regardless of if he was going to play a game or not this year.

The only really good thing is going forward he'll be extremely careful and not take PEDs for fear of the 100 game suspension for second offender. Let's hope the guy's ability wasn't just PED driven.

Neifi was dumb enough to get busted multiple times. Anything's possible.

Yeah, but if the guy isn't good enough to play ball without PEDs and gets caught taking them, I say good riddance anyway. I'm just hoping he plays well and doesn't need to rely on anything other than his natural ability.

Well, there's massive public humiliation and the loss of about $120,000. That's something, right?
And that's massive, internationally known humiliation. And a scarlet letter for the rest of his career. And a great big invitation to be mocked, ridiculed and screamed at by fans in every ballpark for the rest of his life.

I know that most of these guys have low IQ's, but you'd think they'd fathom this kind of thing. Maybe not.
There's nothing better than to realize that the good things about youth don't end with youth itself. It's a matter of realizing that life can be renewed every day you get out of bed without baggage. It's tough to get there, but it's better than the dark thoughts. -Lance
