The only thing I ever got out of Enron was a couple of weekends with a certain V.P. She was nice.
I'm 100% fine with this. I'm just glad there's an actual plan in place that isn't, "Let's load up on retreads and hope we get lucky." I'm a little tired of that plan.

Not wrong about his stuff. You can't tell with any of these kids until they get into these situations. And when you have a bullpen full of them, regardless of their ability and stuff, at least a couple of them are going to fail with this pressure in front of huge crowds. This is too damn predictable and makes me shake my head that people were actually okay with it. We need to overpay for a legitimate setup man if we have to. Maybe 2. It's that big of a need.

I don't think this team is otherwise good enough to trade away any valuable pieces for some set up guys. This team with the Yankees' pen still wouldn't win the division. Let's just suffer through what will surely be another painful season and wait 'til next year.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
The Cubs are 3-1 with a decent pen right now. It would also help if they could score runs without errors or HRs, but still... I wouldn't mind a trade if this shit continues.

It won't be waiting til next year. Look at this team. It's now or not for a long time. I'd rather take the chance it's now, as unlikely as it is.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
It might take some time, but I think then we could sustain a long stretch of really good teams. Depending on what Ricketts does, personnel-wise, of course. I'd hate to mortgage that away for a Matt Karchner or a Bob Howry. No amount of veteran set up men is going to make this team a playoff team.
And the "wait 'til next year" didn't mean we'll be good next year. It's just what I (and everyone here) says every year.

Like Sheps said, we'd be 3-1 with a solid pen right now. The defense sucks, but the rotation is very good and the lineup will be as well.

I just don't want to put all if our eggs in this team's basket. I don't think we're in the same league as the contending teams this year. And we'd get absolutely raped for mediocre talent at this point. Who is available at this point in the season that will make us significantly better? I doubt many teams are eager to go into sell mode 4 games into the season, anyway.

I can't recall a more frustrating start to a season than this, though I shouldn't be surprised.

We were 1-3 in '08, so there's that.

I don't remember the year, but I remember a season in the 90s where we started 0-12...or something like that. Maybe 0-13.

I think it may have been 0-14 even.

And Sullivan says we're considering bringing up Lilly after 1 Iowa start and putting Gorz in the pen.

Random thought: I love Sean Marshall and what he's doing so far, but if he's your 8th inning guy, that's pretty sad(and I'm not saying he shouldn't be, just saying).

Another tough freaking loss. How often do you see a team blow leads in the 8th inning twice in a week?
A veteran in the bullpen may have helped this team win 1 or 2 games already this season but it doesn't appear that one veteran arm would make this team into a certified playoff team.
If the offense comes around and the defense continues to plays as well as they did tonight, I would be all for overpaying for whatever bullpen help is available.

Well shit, because that's where he had problems last year.
