Holy cock. So I guess Youk goes back to 3rd, Ortiz stays the perma DH, Tex at 1st. Lowell has 2 years, 24 million left on his deal I see, so they'll have to try to trade him and pay a good portion of that contract. And before you say, "We should get Youk!"... He's not going anywhere, and neither is Lee.

It's tough for me to imagine how you can compare a 29 year-old guy coming off a year in which he placed 3rd in the MVP vote, and had a 143 OPS+,
to a 35 year-old with a 120 OPS+. Plus, Youk won a Gold Glove <i>after switching positions</i>, which would seem to indicate that he could make the switch to full-time RF easily (a position he's played before).
There's nothing better than to realize that the good things about youth don't end with youth itself. It's a matter of realizing that life can be renewed every day you get out of bed without baggage. It's tough to get there, but it's better than the dark thoughts. -Lance

Anyway, they're going to lock up Youk long term. They absolutely love him there, and his versatility is key(just like DeRo is for us). Not. Going. Anywhere.

Even Bill Simmons admits that the Red Sox are just like the Yankees these days. Whenever they have a problem, they just put a $100 Million band-aid on it.

Abreu has virtually zero chance to get better, and a high chance of getting worse, whereas Dunn and Youkilis are likely to play similarly to how they've played in the past couple seasons for at least 2-3 more years. I know that Abreu has had a great career, and like you, I've always liked him. But when projecting how he'll play over the next 2-3 seasons, I don't believe his exploits in the late-90's on the Phillies have any relevance.

Well...except for that lady last Saturday night but thats a discussion for another time.

I now hate the Red Sox almost as much as any other team, but secretly wish we were them. Ok, I guess it isn't a secret. I don't hate them. I'm just green with envy.
Our window of opportunity is closing and it doesn't help my confidence when teams in the AL like NY and Boston keep getting better. If we ever win a playoff series again and are lucky enough to make it to the Series, it's gonna be tough to beat most of the elite AL teams. Oh well, I probably won't have to worry about that anyway.
