Strangely enough, I was really excited when we first hired Dusty yet very disappointed when Lou came on board. I still haven't warmed up to the old bugger, and probably never will.

Might be fun to form the All Cub Suck Team for the decade.
BTW, if you spend more than a couple of minutes on this, you may find it will depress you.
Here's a start:
Manager - Don Baylor
Catcher - Todd Hundley
1st base - Fred McGriff
2nd base - Aaron Miles (Wanted to give it to Neifi Perez but Miles in 2009 takes the cake)
3rd base - Jose Macias (Thought that Kevin Orie was still around in 00 but mistaken. Todd Zeile could be here)
SS - Nomar Garciaparra (I wanted to put Jeff Blauser here but 99 was his last season)
lf - Brant Brown (Hang over from the 98 season)
cf - Gary Matthews Jr (I wanted to put Jerry Hairston, Jr but Gary couldn't hit. Why couldn't he find HGH in Chicago?)
rf - Craig Monroe (barely around but boy did he suck)
sp - Ruben Quevedo
rp - Antonio Alfonseca
rp - Roberto Novoa
Some of these guys, just sucked. Others were just jerks. In special cases, the guy both sucked and was a jerk.

McGriff? He was pretty damn good during his short time with us. 145 and 125 OPS+ in 2001 and 2002.
I'd go ahead and put Stairs in there at 1B.

It should be limited to starters. Ergo, Perez in, Miles out.

Yeah McGriff was fine... it's just those 2 years were considered such disappointments and people thought getting him could put us in the playoffs, so he's seen negatively. Plus you can't hate on the dude for the Tom Emanski commercial alone.
I'd put Hollywood Hoffpauir.

OK, Miles for "utility" man. Unbelievably, utterly useless, not-Utley utility man.

He killed at the plate in 2001. It wasn't his fault that he couldn't single-handedly launch us into the playoffs. Weren't people just upset with him for holding up the trade? He dragged his feet a little in accepting the trade, IIRC.

And I was agreeing with your agreement -- just adding a reason why Cubs fans didn't really embrace him.

Production wasn't an issue with McGriff.
Some issues with the Crime Dog were:
A) he didn't want to leave Tampa
when he came over Cubs didn't win
C) he rarely seemed to enjoy his time with the Cubs.
D) the real reason, I hated the damn, Tom Eubanski Defensive Drill video.

I think McGriff's commercial should be weighted in his favor when discussing his possible HOF candidacy. Since he's a borderline candidate, that would be the tipping point for me. Especially the hat.
However, his reluctance to join the Cubs moves him back to the Hall of Very Good.
