Dye
#1
Supposedly the Cubs are looking at Dye for the 4th OFer. As an everyday player, I wanted nothing to do with him. However, in this role, I could get behind his signing . . . provided it was a $3-4 M deal. It was reported on both the Score and by Sullivan.

Yeah, I heard that interview driving in. Depending on the money involved, I can totally get behind this. I've always liked Dye, even though he's played for the dark side all these years.

Anyway, from the sounds of it, Dye would be insurance for Alf and would replace Fuk if (when) he starts sucking. You could actually rotate around the corner OF spots and get decent production.

I'd love this. I think Dye has something to offer on a part time basis. Actually, I think he'd produce more than Soriano in both the field and at the plate on a full time basis.

Gotta think he would get a LOT of PT as the 4th OF.

And if Byrd sucks, we can always put Dye in RF and Fuk in CF. I could get behind this

It would help get Soriano some more rest too.

BTW, the Cubs only have one left handed hitter in the everyday lineup.

I like him as a player and always thought as the Dye as the force behind the White Sox's offense. Until July 2009, the guy seemed to rake at the right time.

Unfortunately, Dye looked and played worse than Soriano last half of 2009. Post All Star 2009 figures - 179, 293, 297, 590 and he doesn't appear to be a defense upgrade over Soriano.

He will be 36 next season. I can't recall hearing about an injury causing the drop off in the second half of last year. People were saying that his age finally caught up with him.

It all comes down to the deal that he is willing to sign - how cheap can he come - but I wouldn't be surprised if Micah Hoffpauir put up better numbers than Dye in 2010.

I'm with everyone else on this. If the money is right I have no problem with him as a 4th OF and primary pinch hitter. Fuld could be the 5th OF and we would be in decent shape there. Again, the money has to be right though.

I also wouldn't mind Nady as an alternative to Dye in case we can't work something out.

With Micah still with us, id rather see the money spent on a second baseman. Orlando Hudson?

He wouldn't help what's already going to be one of the worst defenses in baseball, but as backup outfielder? Sure. I doubt he'll settle for such a role, but we'll see. There hasn't been much interest in him. You'd think there would be an AL team that would at least offer this along with some DH opportunities, but maybe he really wants to stay in Chicago.

I would be all for this also, but for some reason the team seems content going with Fontenot and Baker

I'm wondering the same...would he really accept a part time role? Doesn't seem likely to me.

Fontenot is as much a starter as is Fuk, particularly if the Cubs sign Dye.
